About
Silverdale Swim Schools is well established and experienced in the provision of swimming lessons for children and teenagers; and currently teaches aquatic skills to over 500 pupils per week.

    Teacher: Andy Eaton with Tiffany

Lessons are available for beginners (non swimmers), then through graduating intermediate ability groups, up to advanced (very competent and talented swimmers). The three Silverdale swim schools are run from three very adjacent pool locations, all of which are ideal for pupils travelling from within the Hastings, Rother and Wealden boroughs; and from neighbouring East Sussex areas:

  • Battle
  • Bexhill-on-Sea
  • Eastbourne
  • Hailsham
  • Hastings
  • Herstmonceux
  • Pevensey
  • Polegate
  • Robertsbridge
  • Rye
  • St. Leonards-on-Sea

This registered Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) swim school, offers a vast range of swimming lessons for children and teenagers of all abilities by operating the ASA's 'NATIONAL PLAN FOR TEACHING SWIMMING' and the Southern Water 'LEARN TO SWIM' scheme. Lessons are well managed and sensibly disciplined, safe, pro-active, rewarding and fun; structured to promote water skills, safety and fitness.

Silverdale is run by co principals Trevor and Sue Spinks who are extremely proud of their superb staff team and firmly believe that the ratio of staff to pupils is quite exceptional, and far beyond the norm. They positively insist that child safety, competent teaching, friendliness, fun, confidence building, and a sense of personal achievement and self satisfaction, features high in Silverdale's ethos.Silverdale Swim School 'Ducklings' beginner group, supervised by teachers Andy Eaton & Megan Spinks assisted by teaching assistant / skills demonstrator Isabel Taylor

With a large, happy and dedicated team of 38 staff members, Silverdale Swim Schools has an impressive, dedicated and enthusiastic team of ASA and STA qualified instructors. The instructors managing and directing lessons from the poolside, are supplemented and supported by a vibrant team of highly skilled swimmers, employed as 'Teaching Assistants and Water Skills Demonstrators' who work in the water to assist, supervise and encourage the pupils, whilst acting under the control and direction of the lead teacher(s) of each ability group.

All Silverdale staff are confident, constructive and positive when communicating with children of all ages and abilities; enthusiastically guiding them to become happy, safe and competent swimmers. RLSS NPLQ Lifeguards are on duty at all Silverdale lessons. Trevor and Sue Spinks have both been involved in the teaching of swimming for many years. Both are efficient 'hands-on' partners in the day to day running of their ever expanding and popular swimming schools. Having previously both served as Police officers, and both as East Sussex schools swimming teachers, Trevor (a former Senior School Governor) and his wife Sue, are very experienced in teaching and managing children and young people; both are more than capable of managing and supervising the safety, well being, and swimming development of their many pupils.

A minimum joining age of 4 years exists for young children wishing to begin lessons; and an 'Early Bird' waiting list exists to enable parents to register their children early, so that they may be given a priority place as they approach 4 years of age.

Progressive Groups Structure

Lessons are provided for BEGINNERS (non swimmers); rising through eight graduating ability groups to an ADVANCED level, whereby a child/teenager will achieve an extremely competent level of swimming and associated water skills. All lessons are geared to the ASA's 'NATIONAL PLAN for TEACHING SWIMMING' and Southern Water's 'LEARN to SWIM' scheme. Silverdale lessons are provided at 3 pools in Bexhill-on-Sea. (1) BEXHILL LEISURE POOL (2) ST. MARYS SCHOOL POOL and (3) BATTLE ABBEY SCHOOL POOL. All 3 pools are within a very close proximity of each other.

To make an analogy, BEXHILL LEISURE POOL and ST. MARYS POOL are our 'Infant and Junior schools'; both catering for the same levels of ability; from 'Beginners', rising through several stages to 'Lower Intermediate' ability groups. From these two pools our pupils progress even further up the ability scale by graduating to our 'High School' at BATTLE ABBEY SCHOOL POOL. At this our third site, lessons are geared much higher indeed. Here we provide challenging and fun lessons for swimmers to graduate from an 'Intermediate' level through another four progressively rising ability groups to our ultimate 'Advanced' group - 'THE SEALS'.

Fees for lessons vary according to several factors; including pool venue, length of lesson time and ability group. As there are a number of permutations, all prices will be given upon application. A discount is allowed to families with 3 or more children taking lessons at Silverdale.
